Hundreds of hardy souls braved the icy cold waters of the North Sea for the Boxing Day dip at Cromer this morning.
An estimated 400 or so met in the early morning sun to take the plunge for the annual event beneath blue Norfolk skies.
With a high tide expected the timings were brought forward an hour earlier than previous years, starting with a warm-up run at 9am before the dip at 10am.
But despite the welcome sunshine the water was said to be only 5.1C, a couple of degrees warmer than the air temperature.
But that did not stop the fun with swimmers stripping down to bikinis and shorts and a wide variety of fancy dress costumes including super heroes and fairies, and dozens of Santa hats.
This year's swim was organised by the North Norfolk Beach Runners in aid of the Stroke Association.
The charity was chosen out of respect for club runner Andy Kett who suffered a stroke in September whilst out running.
Mr Kett, a self-employed sports massage therapist from Sheringham, had been taking part in the Chiltern Wonderland 50 - a 50-mile race in the Buckinghamshire area - when he became ill.
The former paramedic with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust had got up to eighth place in the race after 38 miles but something went wrong at around 43 miles.
A fellow runner spotted him struggling and went to help, noticing immediately that he was not well.
The medics were called and he was rushed to hospital in Oxford, before being transferred to London where it was established Mr Kett had suffered a stroke.
Mr Kett, from Sheringham, is still receiving treatment and a Go Fund Me page set up to help him and his family during recovery raised £18,900.
Members of his family were there today to watch the dip while there were dozens of collecting buckets for the charity up and down the Cromer sea front.
Chairman of the North Norfolk Beach Runners Clive Hedges said of this year's event: 'It was the best ever!
'We had an amazing turnout bearing in mind the high tide. I reckon between 350 and 400 dippers this year and fantastic crowds too.
'So many people took part, we've raised £3,000 for the Stroke Association.'
