North Norfolk accountant Garry Pilgrim is hoping the launch of an events and ideas drive will see Holt Community Centre become the hub of the town.

North Norfolk accountant Garry Pilgrim is hoping the launch of an events and ideas drive will see Holt Community Centre become the hub of the town.

Mr Pilgrim, who is part of a 5-strong committee, is appealing to local people to come forward with suggestions for ways in which the centre, which has a licensed bar, could increase the range of activities on offer.

"We already provide meeting facilities for many local clubs, and we have a farmers market and lots of sales, but what we want to do is to have a regular programme of entertainment for local people at the weekends," Mr Pilgrim said.

"The problem is that, despite our best efforts, our income barely covers our expenses, and although we are a registered charity, we have no reserve to fund much-needed improvements."

Ideas already dreamed up include hosting charity events and private functions, and organising music and drama evenings.

The committee is also looking for volunteers to help out at the Kerridge Way centre.

"As a group of six, we are working from a somewhat limited base, so we urgently need more support, particularly from people with experience of planning, promoting and staging events," Mr Pilgrim added.

"The goal is to strengthen our finances, which will secure our future and allow modernisation and refurbishment of the facilities."

Forthcoming events at Holt Community Centre include a Buddy Holly revival show on April 4 and a Fireman's Ball on May 2. For more information, or if you could spare a few hours a month to help out, phone 01263 713427 or email holtcc@btconnect.com
