A grant organisation is looking to give money away to deserving causes across Norfolk.

The three-year-old independently-run Norfolk Community Foundation gathers a pot of money from corporate and private sponsors and last year handed out about £90,000 to 150 applicants.

They have included helping a moped loan scheme to help youngsters get to work and training, buying play equipment, funding drama workshops, parent and toddler groups, and befriending schemes to help the elderly and lonely.

Now the foundation is looking to hand out another £50,000 to charities, community organisations and voluntary groups in the next three months.

It is specifically looking to help young people 's issues, groups based in North Norfolk, older people, mental health, and community groups supporting the disadvantaged.

Administrator Slava Puttock said the grants which could be up to £5,000 make a big difference. For instance one enabled a group to hire an ambulance with a tail lift each week to transport the infirm to a lunch club.

North Norfolk was singled out this time because it was considered to be an area suffering pockets of deprivation.

Community groups should send in their applications as soon as possible. Full details are on the foundation's website

www.norfolkfoundation.com or by calling Slava Puttock on 01603 623958.
