It was a clash between watching England on TV playing Colombia at the World Cup in the last 16- or taking part in a school production. And the football won.

Youngsters at Swanton Abbott primary school, near North Walsham, were supposed to perform 'Go for Goal', which is ironically about football, at the school next Tuesday, July 3 at 6.30pm.

But the school's acting headteacher Emma Hamilton-Smith said: 'The football was obviously clashing with the performance so we emailed parents to ask if they would like us to re-schedule it for the following Tuesday. The vast majority approved to allow the children to watch the England match.'

However, there was one dissenting voice. An anonymous person left a message on the EDP website, which said: 'Despite England's poor performance at last night's World Cup. ....the school production planned is to be cancelled. Ironically, the play is thought to disrupt staff and parents' viewing of the game.'
