It was a case of first time lucky for the winner of our 100th birthday gallery competition, who has been presented with a beautifully framed original painting by artist Simon Trinder and Holt gallery Picturecraft.

"We read the North Norfolk News quite regularly and, although we had seen the competition, we had never entered before, so I was absolutely speechless when I heard I had won," said Janice Ball of High Kelling.

Simon, whose work is currently on show at Picturecraft, handed over a stunning, north Norfolk-inspired painting to Mrs Ball and her husband Derek at the weekend.

The prize, which is worth £300, was kindly donated by Simon and Picturecraft Framing.

Since the launch of our weekly gallery feature in February 2006, we have given away more than £7,000-worth of framed prints, original paintings, art books and sculpture, with artists taking part ranging from highly successful professionals to those just starting out.

We have had a tremendous response to the competitions, with readers, artists and galleries agreeing that the News has helped raise the profile of art in the area.

Simon Trinder will be staging his fourth one-man show at Picturecraft Gallery, Lees Yard Holt, from July 12-16. For more information, visit www.picturecraftgallery.com or phone 01263 711040.
