A £250,000 extension to the gym at the Victory Swim and Fitness Centre in North Walsham was officially opened this week.

The 100 sq m Station Road extension, funded by the centre owners North Norfolk District Council and management company DC Leisure, expands the gym facilities in response to a massive demand since the centre opened in 2003.

It houses an extra 12 cardiovascular and strength training machines as well as providing an improved stretching area. There is also a new wireless cardio theatre, allowing users to listen to music or watch and listen to television while they exercise.

Work has also been carried out to improve access for all users, especially those with a disability.

The council's leisure and cultural services manager Karl Read said: “The Victory Swim and Fitness Centre has been a huge success ever since it opened and this project will enable us to further meet the needs of the local community, providing even more facilities for people in the North Walsham area to participate in sport and active recreation.”
