An Essex builder died of an opioid overdose in a north Norfolk lay-by off the A140, an inquest heard.

Raymond Meakins, 56, died on Friday, February 22, 2019 in a lay-by in Erpingham, an inquest opening at Norfolk Coroner's Court on Friday, May 10 heard.

Mr Meakins' body was identified by PC Sarah Howard, who was present at the lay-by, south of the junction with Church Road.

The inquest heard that Mr Meakins was born in 1962 in Colchester, Essex.

He lived at Swan Grove, in Chappel, Colchester, and was employed as a builder.

Dr Rajesh Logasundaram, a consultant histopathologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), said Mr Meakins' cause of death was drug toxicity.

Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk, adjourned the inquest until October this year.
