A former EastEnders star and BAFTA-winning documentary maker is set to swap meeting gang members for supporting sea life on a visit to north Norfolk.
Ross Kemp played Grant Mitchell on the long-running BBC soap and received critical acclaim for his Sky investigative series, Ross Kemp on Gangs.
And now the filmmaker and actor has turned his hand to wildlife conservation after taking on an ambassadorial role at the north Norfolk animal rescue group, Seal and Shore Watch.
Mr Kemp, who became patron of the organisation in April 2018, will appear at their Easter event in Mundesley on Good Friday, April 19, where he will sign photos and merchandise for attendees.
Chairman Bob White said: “Ross' parents live very close to Mundesley and a few times he visited his parents and I've bumped into him on the beach.
“When I took on this job with Seal and Shore Watch I thought I'd ask him to get involved.
“He's a good person to represent us as he's got ties to the area.”
Speaking to this newspaper in 2013, Mr Kemp said: ““My dad's from Norwich and my mum's from North Walsham and my family, as far as I know, goes back to Rackheath in the 15th century.”
Mr White added: “We invited him down to come and see us.
“This is the first time since he's been our patron he's been able to come to an event as he's been busy filming but is visiting for Easter.”
The group will be selling merchandise at the event and also educating people about protecting the coastline.
Mr White added: “We're trying to teach people about beach safety.
“Ross is also going to be signing photos.”
The event will see crew and supporters of the seal watch group gather at The Royal Hotel, Mundesley, from 2pm.
In a post on Facebook, a spokesperson for the group said: “We are delighted to announce that our patron has now found a window in his very hectic schedule.
“Ross Kemp will be here on the north Norfolk coast, to meet up with the Seal and Shore Watch crew and their wonderful supporters, along with people that have helped Stephanie, our founder, get to where Seal and Shore Watch is today.
“We welcome you to join us. Come have a chat, find out more about our community charity and the work we do with seals and wildlife.”
