Paramedics have been told the increased hazardous icy conditions mean they are dealing with an “internal major incident”.

The East of England Ambulance Service has been experiencing higher demand due to the weather conditions, which has seen snow fall in some parts of the region and icy sleet and showers falling in Norfolk.

EEAS chief executive Robert Morton Tweeted: “Due to rising demand and difficult road conditions, we have declared an Internal Major Incident.

“Thank you to all of our managers, staff and volunteers whom are working incredibly hard to keep our patients safe and support our staff.”

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow from 4am today until 11.55pm.

Temperatures will remain very cold, staying near freezing in places. The maximum temperature will be 3°C.

Highways England is urging motorists to drive to the conditions and ensure vehicles are winter ready.

It tweeted: “Snow is forecast so we ask motorists to please drive to the conditions.

“Prepare for any eventuality ensuring your vehicle is winter ready and making sure you have warm clothing, food, drink, required medication, boots, shovel and a torch.”
