A East Anglian charity who are fundraising to open a hospice on the county's coast are set to open a new shop in north Norfolk next month.

East Coast Hospice (ECH), who hope to open Margaret Chadd House on a 7.5 acre plot between Gorleston and Hopton, are set to open a new Holt charity shop in March.

It comes after questions were asked last year about the appeal’s effectiveness - which at its current rate would need another 40 years to raise the remaining £2.6m needed to fund the build alone.

Chairman Jenny Beesley said she “promised faithfully” the project would go ahead.

Retail director Jane Allen said she hoped the new shop, in Feather’s Barn, Feather’s Yard, would open by the end of next month.

She said: “We had looked at Holt and Cromer as you get a lot of tourists and they’re both lovely places.

“I love Holt - when the shop came up, it felt meant to be.”

ECH are currently recruiting for a manager to run the new store.
