Drivers needed for north Norfolk ‘medi-ride’ service
PUBLISHED: 07:00 13 February 2011
Volunteer drivers are needed for a ‘medi-ride’ service which helps people across north Norfolk get to their medical appointments.
North Walsham Area Community Transport Association (NWACTA) provides the medi-ride service to local people, with volunteer car drivers collecting service-users from their homes and taking them to medical appointments, most commonly to their GP surgery but also to chiropodists, chiropractors, physiotherapy, dentist or similar services, including to Cromer Hospital, although not to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The drivers usually wait for patients and return them for their home. HM Revenue Customs permits an expenses allowance of up to 40p per mile.
The expenses allowance is not a payment and therefore is not taxable and does not count against benefits.
To avoid too many calls on existing drivers, NWACTA is seeking to recruit additional drivers, especially if they live in North Walsham, where the majority of service users live, but the company also serves outlying villages and small towns and would welcome drivers from outside North Walsham as well.
For further details, contact Paul, Doris or Pauline on 01692 500840 or call into the NWACTA office, Oaks Lodge, in the New Road car park, North Walsham.
