A £420 donation will help pay for specialist play equipment for disabled children in North Walsham.

North Walsham Play, which was set up to address the lack of play equipment in and around the town, received the pre-Christmas boost from North Walsham Town Council as part of the donation programme using the proceeds from the Sunday farmers' markets.

A cheque was presented by town mayor Sallie Stuckey to trustee Matthew Smith. The donation is a result of 50pc of pitch fees collected between April and September.

Mr Smith said the donation will support the purchase of specialist play equipment for disabled children as part of a fundraising project being spearheaded by North Walsham Play.

He added: 'This very generous donation will help us on our way to our funding target. The money will be used to support the purchase of a DDA compliant wheelchair accessible roundabout planned for the new play park.'
