A dog has been rescued by Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers after being washed out to sea in Happisburgh.

At around midday on Saturday Rosie, an eight-year-old Spaniel, was pulled out to sea.

Rosie’s owner, Rachel Grey, called for help and RNLI volunteers Jake Munday and Martin Gibbs launched a lifeboat.

Rosie was found around 500 metres out at sea and was returned to Mrs Grey wet and frightened, but unharmed.

The RNLI Happisburgh has taken the opportunity to remind dog owners to call the Coastguard.

A spokesperson said: “We would like dog owners whose dogs get swept out to sea to call the Coastguard and ask for the Lifeboat; we are happy to save a dog and would rather that then having to search for a missing owner.”
