Planned coastal cafe will offer afternoon tea for dogs

Afternoon tea will be on the menu for dogs as well as their owners at a new cafe being planned for the north Norfolk coast.
As well as a regular menu, the Cromer branch of 'Doggie Diner' would have a 'hound menu' featuring canine treats such as 'pupcakes', 'bonescuits' and 'doggie sausages'. The 'doggie afternoon tea' includes all these things and more, as well as a tennis ball.
Doggie Diner was started by former financial planner, Adrienne Dickson, and her business partner Amanda Wilkinson in Sunderland in 2015.
There are now two branches in the North East, and a group of friends from Norfolk want to run the Cromer branch as a franchise.
Mrs Dickson said: "A few years ago I got my first dog and realised there was nowhere to go out and eat with dogs, especially if you want to do coffee and cake with friends.
"The cafes have got a brilliant reception. Dog people are very social and love to chat, and it's such a social place for organising walks together and so on.
"A lot of people who don't have dogs just come in by themselves because they love to be around them.
"I know there are a lot of cafes around Cromer, but nowhere that does what we do."
Mrs Dickson said the cafes hosted birthday parties for dogs which "went down a storm".
She said she was delighted when she was contacted by the group who wanted to open a franchise of the business.
Mrs Dickson said: "It was an out-of-the-blue phone call from a collection of friends who were looking to do something different. They googled it and found us, because we're the only franchise dog cafe in the country."
The cafe would on be the ground floor of a new-build on the corner of Mount Street and Bond Street. The applicants have applied to North Norfolk District Council to have the unit re-classified from retail to cafe usage, and if granted, they hope to open by the half term holiday, starting October 18.
The cafe would be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 8pm on Sundays and bank holidays. It would have three full-time and two part-time employees. There would be outdoor as well as indoor seating.
