Five Cromer dental nurses and receptionists will be getting their teeth into a bit of fresh air and exercise when they take part in the annual Race for Life at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich.

The 5km run, which takes place at 280 venues across the UK on May 3 and 4, is the biggest women-only fundraising event in the country. More than 665,000 people took part last year, raising £40 million for Cancer Research UK.

After completing the Race for Life on her own in 2006, Corner House dental surgery practice manager Marie Dobbie came up with the idea of taking part in this year's event as part of a team.

She signed up dental nurses Becky Fabb and Kim Secker, senior receptionist Caroline Williams, and nurse receptionist Lisa Tyler, and within a week, the group had raised more than £200 in sponsorship from patients, friends, and family members.

"Kim's granddad died of cancer, Lisa's aunt and uncle are receiving treatment at the moment, and I think we have all got friends or relatives who have been touched by the disease, so we decided we wanted to do something to help," Marie said.

The group, who have christened themselves Team Corner House, have made posters and set up a website. They are hoping to raise a total of more than £500.

"We have been really delighted with the support we have received so far as, working here, we get to know patients who have suffered from cancer, and it makes you realise just how many people it affects," Marie said.
