A fantastic display is set to light up the skies of north Norfolk and help celebrate the New Year with a bang.

On New Year's Day the town will be celebrating Cromer's 17th annual New Year's Day Firework Display.

The display takes place at 5pm from Cromer Pier and is free, with bucket collections on the day.

It is the 16th year of the fireworks, which started as a one-off millennium event.

And this year there will be a host of activities to accompany the fireworks including a fun run on the prom at 3pm and mulled wine and music in Cromer church.

Jim Bond, one of the event organisers, said: 'The setting makes the fireworks really quite unique. It is really quite an impressive display.'

He said they were expecting upwards of 10,000 people and advised visitors to get to the town in plenty of time.

To coincide with the fireworks there is free parking at Cromer Academy and Cromer Junior School and Cromer Tennis Club.

North Norfolk District Council car parks will have normal changes except for Runton Road which is a set fee of £2 after 1pm.

Morrisons in Holt Road will be open until 4pm with time restricted parking. There will be free parking from 4pm to 6pm for the fireworks.

Due to the sea defence works, there will be no disabled parking spaces available on the promenade.

There will also be a photography competition again this year, which is open to all non-professional photographers capturing the 2016 fireworks display.

The winner of the competition will have their photograph turned into the official poster for the 2017 New Year's Day firework event as well as use in other promotional material. They will also win a prize courtesy of local electrical retailer Hughes Plus.

Emails should be sent to fireworks@cromertown.org and postal copies to Cromer Town Council Offices, North Lodge, Overstrand Road, Cromer, Norfolk, NR27 0AH.

In 2015, grants totalling £5,060 were awarded from the bucket collection at the fireworks.
