A Cromer town councillor is appealing for information about a Northrepps man who died in a World War Two raid.
David Russell received a letter dated September 26, with information about Sergeant Charles Robert Walpole, who was a member of the RAF Marham squadron known as ‘Dambusters’ and was killed in a raid in Dams in 1943.
Mr Russell, who is helping with a research for a book about Sgt Walpole to be published at the end of the year, said: “The letter had no return address.”
He added: “We’re very interested in hearing more about Charles Robert Walpole.
“The RAF can’t provide any further information.”
The letter was signed ‘Tony’ and Mr Russell said: “It looks like the writing of an older person.
“It would be good if he could write to me again with a return address.
“He must have genuinely forgotten to include it.”
