Up to 37 bills asking residents to pay for their garden waste bin service have been sent out in error by North Norfolk District Council.

A council spokesman said they had sent out 3,772 reminders, and “a small number” - less than 1pc - were sent out by mistake.

A spokesman said: “From a database of more than 20,000 customers a small number of letters have been issued incorrectly and we’d like to thank those customers who have already made contact for bringing this to our attention and for their patience.

“We’d ask that if customers have already paid and do receive a reminder letter they make contact with us so we can ensure our records are correct.

“Contact can also be made online on www.north-norfolk.gov.uk.”

The council charges £50.70 a year for its garden waste brown bin service, and the charge is reduced to £46.02 if customers pay through direct debit.
