Corks were popping at Shannock Court in Sheringham as a special party was held to celebrate resident Alice Minter turning 100.

Alice, who has lived at at the home since 1988, was joined by fellow residents, her son Michael, who flew over from Canada to join the celebrations, plus the mayor Douglas Smith, MP Norman Lamb and many local traders who have come to know Alice well over the years.

House manager Sharon Bowen, who organised the party, said: “Alice really is loved by everyone so we decided that we’d all chip in to provide the best 100th birthday party anyone could have. So, for weeks now, we have been making decorations, ordering food and designing invitations.

“We decided to get Alice a special present – but when you reach 100, what do you need? Alice is now registered blind so we decided to go door-to-door and ask people to record a message that she could then listen to and know how much she is loved by all. She also received a telegram from the Queen, which she was delighted with!”

After the celebrations, Alice said: “It was wonderful and so kind of my friends at Shannock Court to throw me a party. I was incredibly touched – especially when so many people from the local community came along to wish me happy birthday.”
