A sports and activities project designed to provide exercise opportunities to isolated individuals and communities in North Norfolk has been named the best of its kind in the county.

North Norfolk District Council’s Sports Clubs and Hubs project, funded by Sport England, creates activities for the 50-plus and 14 to 25 year old age groups.

It won an ‘activity in the community’ category at the Norfolk Sports Awards on November 14.

The project sees professional instructors providing affordable sporting activities including Pilates, tai chi, seated exercise, yoga and walking football in rural locations in the district.

District councillor Maggie Prior congratulated the team on the award, saying: “The fact that they work so well as a team has a substantial part to play in this. Huge congratulations to them all.”

The project has delivered activities to 26 different venues across the district so far.
