Club on track to reopen after cold snap damage
A north Norfolk sports and social club is getting back on track after suffering 20,000 worth of damage in the recent cold weather.
MADRA (Mundesley and District Recreational Committee) Sports and Social Club based in Hall Lane, Knapton, was a victim of the cold snap at the end of last year, when several of its pipes burst leaving it flooded and much of the building damaged.
But bosses of MADRA say repairs have almost been completed and they are looking to a grand re-opening event on Saturday, March 12.
Around nine or ten pipes burst inside the building on December 27 last year, but as the building is not used every day, the burst pipes were not discovered until the day before New Year's Eve.
Graham Quinton, who is chairman of MADRA, said: 'There was at least two inches of water on the floor, the kitchen ceiling had also come down and that had lead to the bar area getting broken. All the kitchen appliances were damaged as well. The damage was quite extensive.'

Altogether, the bill for repairs has come to around 20,000, which has included the replacement of carpets, repairs to the ceiling and generally cleaning up the mess.
Most of the repairs were funded by insurance pay-outs, but money had to be scraped together for emergency repairs to be carried out.

Mundesley Football Club, which is one of the groups using the building, were able to continue using the facilities, but Mr Quinton said the club lost a lot of revenue as the bar could not be operated.
They are now planning a grand re-opening on March 12, with an evening of entertainment and music from local band Chibber, starting from 7pm onwards.
Mr Quinton said they are also looking for more groups, particularly for youngsters, to use the building as well.
