A north Norfolk holiday village was cleaning up today ready for a new flock of visitors after a fire forced a farewell night evacuation.A small blaze in the roof over the entertainment area at Mundesley Holiday Village at tea time on Sunday saw 160 people ushered away from their roasts and back to their rooms, while firecrews put it out.
A north Norfolk holiday village was cleaning up today ready for a new flock of visitors after a fire forced a farewell night evacuation.
A small blaze in the roof over the entertainment area at Mundesley Holiday Village at tea time on Sunday saw 160 people ushered away from their roasts and back to their rooms, while firecrews put it out.
The last night cabaret was cancelled, but the guests did not go hungry - as staff sent out for 160 portions of pie or sausage and chips from the village fish and chip shop, which visitors ate in their chalets.
Group operations manager John Foreman said the fire broke out during a thunderstorm, but the cause was unknown. With no power in the main building, the outgoing guests were given continental breakfast in the ballroom, and a packed lunch to see them on their way.
Staff worked through the night to clear up, and were hoping to get back to normal today, barring a boarded off section at the seat of the fire, in time for a fresh batch of 210 guests.
