The old Barclay's bank building on Tucker Street, in Cromer, has been converted into a the region's latest East Anglian Children's Hospices (EACH) charity shop.

And the branch - which is the charity's 38th location in the UK - was welcomed by crowds who gathered for an opening ceremony on Thursday, May 30, attended by the town pier's cartoon mascot Claude the Crab.

The crustacean character put his claws to good use, as he snipped the ribbon across the Grade II listed building's doors.

Ahead of the opening at 10am, area manager David Loombe addressed the waiting shoppers.

"We've turned the Barclay's bank into a ladies boutique - we've got a toy room and a men's room," he told the crowd outside.

"You can spend your money knowing you're supporting a great charity."

"The ambitions are to open six more stores in this financial year."

The store enjoyed a busy first morning's trading.

Customers spent £1,019 in the first hour, which Mr Loombe said the charity was "really pleased with".

He said: "Every single time we open a new store we're surprised with how many people come out and support us and EACH - the cause that is behind the shop.

"The shop itself is great and really takes charity shopping to a new level, with the separate rooms we have - the children's room, the men's room, and the book room.

"Every town has its charity shops but we like to think that we have a market share.

"The quality of products are top notch - we have something for everybody."

And Cromer EACH manager Laura Mackay said: "The opening has gone really well.

"It's absolutely great to see so many people here."

Shoppers enjoyed the selection of clothes, books and bric-a-brac on offer in the store.

Sarah Rogan, from Buckingham, said: "It's lovely, really modern.

"Charity shops can be a bit old fashioned and this is nothing like that. It's really spacious."
