A controversial plan to demolish and rebuild the Salvation Army citadel in Sheringham is set to go before North Norfolk District Council's planning committee on Thursday.
Since the plan for the Cremer Street site was first mooted earlier this year it has attracted stiff opposition from people living nearby with a 58 signature petition opposing the scheme being sent to planners last month.
Concerns include that the increased capacity of the building will cause parking problems, worries about the look and scale of the new building and objections about the amount of disruption the work will cause.
A report to go before the Development Control Committee says: “Whilst considerable discussions regarding the building have taken place and amendments were made, officers continue to have reservations, in particular with regard to its overall appearance in the street scene on this prominent corner when viewed from Co-Operative Street. Further design improvements are being sought.”
Officers will give a recommendation as to whether the application should be approved or refused at the planning meeting.
