A ‘jazz and jam’ music session where the singer also sells her home-made produce is set to take place this weekend.

Annie Slater from Hoveton is hosting another of her ‘Jazz and Jam’ Charity fund-raising events at The Lighthouse Inn, Walcott on Sunday May, 15 from 12.30pm - 3pm, in the marquee.

Music is by the ‘Old Codgers’ band, with Annie being joined by Eileen Stannard as guest vocalist. There will be the usual raffle and dancing. Admission is £3, (children free) at the door.

Bookings can be made via Mrs Slater on 01603 783204 or The Lighthouse Inn on 01692 650371.

Over the course of 2010, Mrs Slater has raised a total of just under £7,500 for various charities, with her music sessions and proceeds from sales of her produce at her roadside stall.

The main recipient, Worstead Day Care Centre, which Mrs Slater’s husband Lewis, 84, who had a stroke almost 10 years ago attends, received £5,500.

The donations have helped towards the purchase of a replacement mini-bus for transporting clients to and from the centre and to generally assist with day to day running costs.

Janet Spink, manager of WDCC, said: “We have truly been blessed by having Annie Slater as our main fund-raiser.

“Without the support of volunteers who give their time so freely and fund-raisers like Annie, it would truly be a huge struggle.”

So far in 2011 Mrs Slater, has raised £1,200 which has helped to buy a laptop for administration use at the day centre, contributed towards minibus maintenance costs and the installation of a security alarm.

Further projects for 2011 include the purchase of a specialised, medically-approved, computerised exercise machine.

Redecorating of the centre itself and carpet-cleaning is also necessary and more raised flower beds and gardening tools are needed.

The centre itself is now open for an extra day each week on Thursdays to accommodate clients who do not need the assistance of trained medical staff - the cost per day, including lunch, is £15.
