Eating a banana and an apple every day is the recipe for a long life, according to Norfolk’s newest centenarian.
Ella Westgate, who lives at the Walsham Grange Care Home, said a healthy lifestyle and a love of flowers and gardening have been what has kept her going.
Mrs Westgate went to school in the Stalham area until she was 14, when she left to go into service, working for the Boardman family for many years.
Her first husband was killed in the Second World War and she later remarried, to Reginald Westgate, who died in 1985 after 47 years of marriage.
Mrs Westgate worked for Norfolk County Council as a Home Help from 1969 to 1982. She lived in Ludham for 50 years.
She has one son, Robin Jermy, three children and six great-grandchildren.
Mr Jermy said: "The most important aspect of her life was her love of flowers and gardening - she won several medals at the produce show in the village. Her recipe for a long life was that she always ate a banana and an apple every day."
