Celebrity Chef Galton Blackiston, Councillor Brian Hannah from North Norfolk Council and Headmistress of Blakeney Primary School, Sue Bubois, with pupils from the school came together at SPAR Blakeney to celebrate a fundraising initiative to benefit both the local community and the suppliers of local produce.

The event kicked off an initiative to raise much-needed funds for Blakeney Primary School and the fundraising got off to a fast start with the store achieving £1000 in two days.

The store was dressed with a nautical theme and store manager, Yvonne Edmunds and her team carried this theme into their clothes by dressing as pirates for the weekend.

Yvonne said; “With face painting, fancy dress, wine tastings and a visit from Mr Incredible there was something for customers of all ages to get involved in to support this fantastic cause. We have now raised £1000 and intend to raise much more for Blakeney Primary School and in adopting initiatives that both help the environmental and support local suppliers, it's not just the school that will benefit.”

The fundraising will continue via three individual schemes with all proceeds going to Blakeney Primary School:

Vouchers

Every customer that buys a locally sourced product from the store will receive a voucher worth 10p for Blakeney Primary School which can either be handed in at the school or added directly to the fundraising total by the store's staff.

Local supplier Paul Graves said; "The fresh meats that we have been supplying to the store for the last 20 years, are as local as it gets. Our relationship with SPAR Blakeney has enabled our business to grow from strength to strength, and we are more than pleased to be involved with this campaign."

Recipe Cards

Celebrity chef, Galton Blackiston has created a set of recipe cards based on the locally sourced products available in-store. These cards will be on sale in-store.

Galton commented; "As a passionate supporter of locally sourced foods, I am delighted to be working with SPAR on this campaign. The initiative really drives home the message that local foods support local communities, local businesses and the local environment.”

The school intends to use the money to regenerate the grounds with trees and plants in keeping with the environmental theme. A portion of the money will also go towards a climbing frame in the shape of a boat for the children to enjoy.

Sue Dubois, Headmistress of Blakeney Primary School said; “Blakeney community supports the school brilliantly. We are very grateful to Spar for all the energy and commitment they are putting into this appeal, and would like to say a big "thankyou" in anticipation of a productive campaign from everyone here at Blakeney School. We will be using some of Galton Blakiston's recipe cards from the campaign in our cookery club next half term.”
