Loyal customers and friends have been wishing Icarus Hines all the best on his final day (Saturday, September 29) as a butcher after a 33-year career.

Mr Hines, who turns 59 on October 10, has worked at the Cromer butchers that bears his name since 1985.

He said: “I’ve got lots of cards and gifts and I’m very touched. It’s quite strange, really, knowing it’s my last day. It’s the end of an era.”

Mr Hines, who lives in East Runton, is now looking forward to going on holiday in Portugal and to a family wedding in Australia, and having more time to enjoy sports.

“I’ll be able to do more cycling and tennis, and of course have more time with the family,” he said.

Mr Hines said he also hoped to go on co-hosting the Art of Butchery and Fishmongery display at the Royal Norfolk Show, and would stay involved with the community. He said he would also continue to be involved in the shop, which is being taken over by Richard Banning and Jake Wright, who have worked there for 15 years.

He said: “I do intend to come back at Christmas time and probably do a bit of holiday cover as well.”
