Sponsored by Kier, KLM and the Royal Air Force, a group of 16 and 17 year olds spent the week based at outdoor-centre Bramley Lakes as part of a two-year scholarship.

All of the students, some from North Walsham and Norwich, are studying maths and physics for A Level, and hope to have careers in engineering.

Led by former RAF wing commander Pat Carter, the week included a canoe trip to Woodbastwick where the youngsters spent a night camping.

Mr Carter said: 'We want to establish a pool of talent for the future.'

The 19 students, from across the UK, went through a selection process to be awarded the scholarships, and hope to go on to study engineering at university. It was linked to the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.
