Thousands of women wearing decorated bras will stride through the streets of London at the weekend on a walking marathon raising cash for a cancer charity.

Among a 23-strong north Norfolk group is a one mother who is tackling the 26-mile route after her own battle with breast cancer.

Cromer Town Council's deputy clerk Janet Warner was diagnosed in 2006 after discovering a lump herself, but is back to work after surgery and medication.

'I only had about a week and a half off. My way of coping was keeping occupied,' explained the 46-year-old.

She has taken part in two Races for Life and an 18-mile walk for Macmillan cancer alongside the Bure Valley Railway, but the London event will be her longest charity walk so far.

'I walk the dog a lot, but not on the training sessions. It will take about 7-8 hours and after 18 miles your feet start to hurt,' she added. 'I am looking forward to it, but with some trepidation.'

Mrs Warner is part of the Bosom Buddies team from all over north Norfolk, which includes a handful of men - 5,000 of whom will be among the 15,000 women walkers on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The local team led by Sarah Woodrow, who has done the event four times before, has been raising funds through charity events ranging from cake sales to a friendly rugby match as well as doing their training walks, and are set to raise thousands of pounds towards the cause.

Those taking part are decorating their bras to a Strictly Come Dancing style them with plenty of sequins and frills, with the Bosom Buddies - who range between 19 and 65 - adding pink tutus.

The London Playtex Moonwalk raises money for the charity Walk the Walk which grants money to breast cancer research programmes and funds equipment and care for cancer sufferers.
