Cromer museum is going from strength to strength after its £680,000 revamp two years ago.

The attraction is predicting it will have had more than 24,000 visitors through its doors by the end of the financial year in April.

The figure represents the second highest number of visitors since 1989 and has only ever been topped by last year's staggering total of 33,000 visitors, which was boosted massively thanks to the revamp.

“It has been said that you tend to have a big year when you reopen then you have a quiet year after that before it evens out,” said Alastair Murphy, the museum's curator.

“If it stays like this year we would be very happy.”

The row of Victorian fishermen's cottages first opened as a museum in 1978 but closed in late 2004 for an18 month facelift.

It reopened in March 2006 with an eye catching new front entrance, geology displays, new toilets and an education room.

Other attractions include a recreation of a Victorian fisherman's cottage, a skull cast of a giant swimming mosasaur dinosaur and an exhibit of brave lifeboat men from the town.

Some parts of the re-vamp have proved more popular than others and staff are currently working to improve some displays.
