While the heavy snow has left many people inside with nothing but coffee and TV, Dave Rowntree decided there was no point holding on for tomorrow to get out of his country house.

The Blur drummer and Norfolk county councillor braved the less than tender weather to help north Norfolk residents grit the roads so they could once again enjoy a spot of park life.

The Knapton resident, who joined the council as a Labour member representing University division last May, said: 'Grit bins are local communities first line of defence against icy conditions.

'That's why Norfolk Labour fought so hard to protect our grit bins and lorries from Tory cuts.'

Mr Rowntree also praised the region's farmers, saying: 'The unsung heroes of the week are the region's farmers, who cleared the worst of the drifts from the roads, and rescued countless drivers. A huge 'thank you' to you all.'
