Drivers failing to look properly was the biggest factor in crashes in Norfolk last year, new figures have revealed.

It was responsible for 492 of the 1,864 reported collisions in the county last year according to data from the Department of Transport.

Other factors reported in Norfolk included the driver failing to judge the others person’s speed, a cause in 230 collisions and a poor turn or manoeuvre which led 161 crashes.

Loss of control, travelling too fast for the conditions and sudden braking were also contributory factors.

But the figures also show the number of crashes linked to each factor has fallen each year from 2014.

Nationally there were 42,189 crashes reported across the country in the last 12 months with Norfolk having the 12th highest rate.

Brett Dixon, president of APL, which released the data, said: “As millions of people take to the roads to see family and friends, drivers really must be even more aware of the need to address dangerous habits to avoid needless collisions.”
