The quality of teaching and learning at an infant and nursery school in Aylsham has been described as “outstanding”.

An Ofsted report for John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School dubbed it a good school praising it for its clear routines and children's enjoyment of learning.

It also commended staff for their engagement with parents and giving the children an “education for life”.

Head teacher, Fiona Chant, said that she was really pleased with the inspection which recognised their strong teamwork and work in the community but that her favourite part of the report was that they picked up on the children's enjoyment in the classroom.

She said: “If the children are enjoying their education then learning comes naturally.”

The report did advise that reading standards could be higher and the children's confidence in maths could be improved.
