A north Norfolk community is set to remember the men who died during the First World War with a floral tribute and a brief history of their military careers.

There are 13 names on the roll of honour at Beeston Regis' All Saints' Church with several others who died in the conflict buried in the churchyard.

Village historian Bob Wilkinson has researched the life of one of the men, South Australian Bert James, and the tribute and history will be placed inside the church from May 7, the centenary of his death.

He said: 'He (Bert James) came to England to join the Royal Flying Corps and was killed in an accident in Kent in May 1918.

'His maternal grandfather, Lawrence Reynolds, had emigrated to Australia from north Norfolk but there were still members of the family living in Beeston Regis and this, no doubt, accounts for his burial in the churchyard.'
