Samuel Thomas, who is from Cromer but now lives in Brighton, will show five new originals and five new limited edition prints at the town’s Garden House Gallery in Garden Street.

Mr Thomas works in a number of styles, one of which echoes back to the nostalgia of the 1920s ‘Come to the seaside’ railway posters, but with a contemporary twist.

He said: “I usually paint seascapes and the countryside, often these are very quiet and reflective places.

“But I choose to paint these landscapes in loud and vibrant ways, that explode with colour, joy and pattern, the paintings absorb all of our senses and we get lost in them.

“The reason I do this is because I want to celebrate these ordinary simple pleasures like walks by the seaside and transform them back to the audience as extra-ordinary and outlandish.

“It’s because during these quiet and reflective moments in life - we gain mental clarity and huge amounts of joy from these seemingly simple pleasures. “

Mr Thomas said he was heavily influenced by his north Norfolk surroundings, but was not afraid of branching out.

He has moved to Brighton to share his artworks with a wider audience.
