Two arrests made after three separate crashes happen near north Norfolk town

It was a busy weekend for the emergency services near a north Norfolk market town after three separate crashes resulted in two arrests.

The first incident saw police issue a warning after a road in Fakenham had to be closed for more than an hour, causing traffic chaos.

Officers were called to the accident at around 11.30am on Saturday, February 2.

It happened on the A148 close to the Shell garage and near to the roundabout on the outskirts of the town.

The road remained closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Norfolk police took to Twitter to advise drivers to take alternative routes, and also issued a warning about driving carefully in the icy conditions.

An ambulance crew from the East of England Ambulance Service Trust also attended.

No one was arrested during this incident.

The next day, a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being pulled over by police near South Creake on Sunday, February 3.

Officers from Norfolk police shared the news on Twitter at around 2.30am.

PC Rich Dawson, Fakenham beat manager, confirmed that the driver had been taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre while the incident was being investigated.

Later that day, another driver was arrested following a crash in Sculthorpe after testing positive for both drugs and alcohol.

Firefighters from Fakenham were called to Creake Road shortly before 10am.

The two crews from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service helped to removed a person from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.

Officers from North Norfolk police took to Twitter to inform the public.

The post read: “#PC633 & #PC1912 attended an RTC at Creake Road, Fakenham today. Driver was arrested after testing positive for drugs & alcohol. Was taken to hospital with minor injuries.”

Norfolk Police are currently waiting on more information from road policing in regards to the incident.

A crew from the East of England Ambulance Service attended and the East Anglian Air Ambulance was also called.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries while the vehicle and surrounding area was made safe for other road users by the fire crews.
