LOCAL history enthusiasts are hoping people will scour their albums, check the loft, and scrabble in forgotten drawers to help build a community archive of photos and other material.

The newly-formed North Walsham and District Community Archive Group is recording the past and present cultural heritage of the town and its surrounding villages and is appealing for contributions which can be copied and returned.

The multi-media digital archive will be formed mostly from photos and documents but chiefs also hope to include oral reminiscences.

It can be viewed on-line at: www.remembernorfolk.org under the North Walsham section.

At the group's inaugural meeting Mike Ling was elected chairman, Bob Bishop vice-chairman, Angela Burrell secretary, and David Ling treasurer.

They will meet in North Walsham Library on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.15pm and new members are welcome.

* Anyone with material, especially photographs, should contact Mr Ling on 01692 405995.
