Archant

You’ve dusted off the family silver, lifted that old watercolour off the wall and fished the first-edition novel out of the loft.

You’re ready for your own five minutes of fame, and possibly fortune, on one of British television’s most enduring and beloved icons - BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.

But before you head off to Cromer Pier to see Fiona Bruce and the gang when the Roadshow visits on Thursday, May 24, there are a couple of things you should know.

- About 2,000 people are expected to attend, so queuing will be inevitable. First you will need to line up at reception where you will get a ticket to for the team you need to see - for example ‘books and manuscripts’ or ‘ceramics and glass’.

- The Roadshow has a team of stewards who are there to help.

- Admission starts at 9.30am, and as long as you are in the queue by 4.30pm you should get to see an expert as the team keeps filming into the evening.

- There are places to buy food and drink on the pier and nearby, but if you’re standing in line you may want to bring a bottle of water and something to snack on.

- If you have a large or heavy item to be valued, such as a piece of furniture, you can bring photographs of it instead, with close-ups of any detailing.

- Try not to bring too many items along for appraisal - a maximum of three or four would is a fair amount.

- The team does not include specialists in stamps, coins, rugs, carpets or musical instruments, but they can suggest alternative sources for more detailed information.

- Pack your items with care, and carry them in something sturdy to avoid breakages. For security, don’t put your personal details such as name and address on packaging or leave your bags unattended.

- Thursday should be a fine, partly cloudy day with a high of 15 degrees, but bring a jumper as it can get breezy on the North Sea!

- Cromer Pier has disabled access, and disabled visitor parking bays are on the promenade at the bottom of the West Cliff ramp, off New Street.

- Say hello to the team from Eastern Daily Press/North Norfolk News! We will be covering the Roadshow on the day.
