A Second World War gun turret has been exposed on a Norfolk beach after the storms removed the sand.
Photographs taken by Marianne Shelley Goddard on Bacton beach yesterday afternoon have ignited quite a debate on social media.
She said: 'It's just sitting there - as large as life. I was told about it and I live in Bacton. I went down there to get some photographs. Very rarely seen...Will be gone again when the sand comes back!'
Ian Groves added: 'It's an Allan Williams Turret and had room for two soldiers, giving them a 360deg arc of fire! There's one (at least I hope it will still be there!) on a footpath at Cley-next-the-Sea. Very visible as you approach it.'
The turret was a pre-fabricated steel defence structure designed to be manned by two men with a machine gun. They were seen as viable alternatives to concrete pillboxes.
