A school has marked 150 years at the heart of its north Norfolk village with a day of community celebration.

Swanton Abbott Community Primary School brought together pupils, families, and staff—past and present—for an afternoon of music, games, and shared memories.

The milestone was especially meaningful for those with deep family connections to the school, including parents and grandparents who had once been pupils themselves.

Fiona Russell, head of school, said: "It was a wonderful afternoon and I was so proud to see children, families, staff and members of our community celebrating together.

"What made it particularly special was hearing the memories of parents who attended Swanton Abbott themselves and even hearing about their parents attending before them.

"There is such a wonderful sense of history here."

Current pupils helped mark the occasion by designing a commemorative tea towel, offering families a keepsake from the anniversary year.

The event highlighted the enduring role of the school in village life.

Ms Russell said: "For 150 years, this school has been part of the lives of local children and families.

"Schools are about so much more than buildings – they are about people, relationships and memories.

"It was lovely to celebrate everything that has come before us, while watching our children create memories of their own."

Picnic blankets covered the school grounds as children played and families enjoyed music, dancing, and conversation.

Many took the opportunity to share stories from their own school days, reflecting on the friendships and experiences that shaped them.

The school said the event served as a reminder of the generations who have passed through Swanton Abbott’s doors, and the generations still to come.

It was a testament to the lasting impact of education, community, and the ties that bind a village together.
