A creative primary school has been awarded the Artsmark Silver Award by Arts Council England.

Langham Village School received the national award for embedding creativity and the arts throughout its teaching and learning.

The award follows a two-year Artsmark journey during which the school expanded opportunities for children to engage with the arts across the curriculum.

Polly Kossowicz, headteacher at Langham Village School, said: "We are incredibly proud to receive the Artsmark Silver Award.

"Our aim has always been to ensure that every child has the opportunity to discover their own creativity and to experience the arts in meaningful and exciting ways.

"What has been particularly rewarding is seeing the increased confidence of children who may not always see themselves as performers or artists.

"The arts have become part of how we teach and how our children express themselves."

The Artsmark assessors commended the school for laying "strong foundations for the development of the role of the arts," noting staff confidence through targeted training, collaborative planning, and peer support.

They also praised the use of arts to support cross-curricular learning.

Langham Village School now plans to give children a greater role in shaping its creative direction, including through the formation of an Arts Select Committee as part of its Pupil Parliament.

Hopes for the future include expanding multicultural music and dance, increasing access to live theatre, and providing more opportunities for pupils to compose music, choreograph dance, and curate exhibitions.

The school also aims to strengthen partnerships with artists and cultural organisations.

Mrs Kossowicz said: "Silver is a fantastic achievement, but for us it is really the beginning of the next chapter.

"We want our children to leave Langham as creative, confident, and culturally aware young people, with the confidence to express themselves and the belief that their ideas and creativity matter."
