Railway stations across Norfolk and Waveney are set for major upgrades, with additional funding going towards projects.

Greater Anglia has awarded more than £350,000 to 33 community-led projects through its Customer and Community Improvement Fund (CCIF), which supports schemes that benefit both the railway and the wider community.

In Norfolk and Suffolk, the funding will support a range of improvements, including tourism promotion, transport links and station upgrades.

Jonathan Denby, head of corporate affairs at Greater Anglia, said: "We have seen a growing interest in this funding opportunity to make a positive difference in our communities.

"This is an excellent scheme, and a way of supporting locally focused enhancements in line with community needs."

Among the Norfolk projects, Cromer will receive £3,500 for new heritage signage and Thetford will benefit from a £30,000 feasibility study to explore options for improving accessible access to the station.

There is also £49,924 for walking and cycling improvements around Diss station.

Lowestoft station will receive £47,000 to help increase toilet provision, along with £3,500 for improved onward travel signage.

Other projects include new walking guides for the East Suffolk Line, £9,900 for improvements to Halesworth Museum and £4,500 for developing new hidden history guides to enjoy the East Suffolk area.

The CCIF scheme is designed to support schemes that deliver community benefits and reinforce the railway’s positive role in society.

Funding applications were submitted by community rail partnerships, station adopters, local authorities, charities and other organisations across the Greater Anglia network.

The scheme also forms part of Greater Anglia’s wider commitment to strengthening its role within the community and improving the passenger experience.
