A brand which has betting shops across Norfolk is planning to axe more than 100 stores.
Betfred has shops in Dereham, Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Wroxham, Wymondham, Fakenham, King’s Lynn and Hunstanton.
It has been confirmed that 132 stores will be closed along with 600 jobs being at risk nationally as part of the closure by September.
The company cited rising costs, including inflation, increased national insurance contributions, and higher gambling taxes, as factors behind the decision.
Jo Whittaker, chief executive of Betfred, said: "We have tried hard to protect all our sites and the colleagues who work in them, but the combined impact of higher employer national insurance contributions, wage inflation, increases in gambling taxes and wider economic uncertainty has left us with no choice.
"These are well-run shops, staffed by dedicated colleagues, and it is incredibly hard to see any of them close, but the current fiscal and regulatory environment has made it impossible to keep trading all our shops."
The company has launched a consultation over the closures and will continue to operate around 1,100 shops nationwide.
