A 92-year-old from Norfolk who became a passionate parkrunner two years ago is now on track to complete his 100th event.

Ron Clark, from Sheringham, first took part in the weekly 5km event in August 2024 at Blickling after a suggestion from his son.

Though at first he doubted he could run, he soon found himself embracing the challenge and now looks forward to it every Saturday.

Mr Clark said: "When my wife passed away, I used to meet up with Ian, my son, on the weekends and we would go on a walk.

“When he suggested the parkrun I said, I can't run.

“When Ian told me it can be walked, I gave it a try and we walked together the first time.

Parkrun said that anyone who completes the 5k in under 50minutes is a runner, giving Mr Clark the motivation he needed.

He recently recorded a personal best time of 43 minutes 22 seconds and is on track to complete his 100th parkrun in September.

Mr Clark said: "I look forward to it every week.

"I've met some very nice people both at my home Blickling parkrun and Sheringham parkrun.

"When you finish there is always someone there to clap you in and make you feel proud."

Though he says he was never a runner until just before his 90th birthday, he’s no stranger to staying active, playing golf twice a week and having cycled regularly in his youth.

He credits parkrun not just for improved fitness, but also for boosting his mood and giving him a strong sense of community.

Mr Clark said: "I am a lot fitter since I started. When I finish the run, I feel so high – it picks you up and lifts your mood."
