A heat health alert in place for Norfolk has been upgraded from yellow to amber as temperatures are expected to soar above 30C this bank holiday weekend.
The alert - issued by the government - means that high temperatures are likely to significantly impact health and social care services.
Demand for these services will increase and people might struggle to keep and stay cool.
This could lead to "a rise in deaths", especially in over-65s and people with health conditions.
The alert will be in place from 2pm today (May 22) until 5pm on Wednesday.
It is on track to be a record-breaking May for the UK.
The current May temperature record stands at 32.8C, recorded in Camden Square, London in 1922.
Over this bank holiday weekend, the mercury is set to creep above the 30C mark in Thetford and Downham Market in Norfolk, which will both see highs of 33C.
Great Yarmouth will see highs of 24C, while Attleborough will peak at 32C.
Meanwhile, Norwich will see highs of 32C and Sheringham will experience a peak of 27C.
A heatwave could be possible by Sunday, Met Office operational meteorologist Niamh Murray said.
The heatwave threshold at this time of year is 28C for three consecutive days in the same location.
