Sheringham Little Theatre is celebrating its 66th summer repertory season with a packed programme of comedy, drama, and coastal-themed entertainment.

The long-running tradition returns with a cast of six professional actors performing across a varied line-up of plays, opening with the comedy Lend Me a Tenor on July 29, followed by the cult musical Little Shop of Horrors.

Debbie Thompson said: "We are really keen to keep up our tradition of weekly 'rep' in its true sense with six actors appearing in all the shows."

The season continues with the psychological thriller Night Must Fall before concluding with On The Edge, a new comedy set in a coastal village during a storm.

On the Edge is one of the winners of Sheringham Little Theatre’s inaugural playwriting competition, launched by theatre president Suranne Jones.

Ms Thompson said: "On the Edge had such a great a response when it was read at a public session by our president Suranne.

"Robert has written another act and we cannot wait to see it take to the stage for the first time."

Sheringham Little Theatre is one of the last remaining venues to regularly host traditional repertory drama, which has long been considered a vital training ground for actors.

The theatre is marking its 25th season of running its own repertory company, rather than hosting touring companies, and Ms Thompson said they are proud to be returning to their roots while keeping the programme fresh.

It has hosted summer rep for 66 years now.

The summer schedule also includes a comedy night, If It’s Laughter You’re After, with Norfolk entertainers Olly Day and Nigel “Boy” Syer on July 17.

On August 16, rockgrass band Hayseed Dixie will return after a sold-out show last year.
