An exhibition exploring the creative legacies of three artists will go on display.
Sheringham Museum will present The Stitcher, the Photographer and the Painter, running from March 21 to October 31.
The exhibition explores the work and life stories of John Craske, Cecil Hewitt, and Thomas Armes—each artist shaped by Sheringham, its people, and the nearby sea.
The exhibition examines how personal challenges, including significant health issues, became the artists’ sources of resilience and creativity.
John Craske, who was born and educated in Sheringham, created distinctive stitched artworks that grew from his deep ties to the community.
Cecil Hewitt, a photographer who spent long holidays at his family’s coastal home, captured the daily life and atmosphere of the seaside town through his lens.
Thomas Armes, a painter who retired to Sheringham, was inspired by the light and landscape, producing iconic artworks that helped promote the town as a holiday destination.
In addition to the exhibition, March will see the opening of a permanent Deep History gallery at the museum.
The gallery will explore North Norfolk’s prehistoric past, dating back nearly one million years when early humans lived in what is now coastal Norfolk.
