A church service will take place to mark the anniversary of the war in Ukraine.

St Peter’s Church in Sheringham will hold the service at 4pm on Sunday, February 22, working closely with North Norfolk Aid for Ukraine (NNAFU), to mark the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and show ongoing support for those affected by the conflict.

Revd Iain Grant, assistant curate at St Peter’s, said: "Ukraine drops off the face of our news when something else happens in the world.

"We forget about it.

"Yet the people of Ukraine don't get that luxury.

"For them, the war is the only news, and it brings fresh horror each and every day.

"Christ calls us to love one another as we love ourselves, and Christ calls us to look to the most vulnerable."

St Peter’s has worked closely with NNAFU since the war began in 2022, hosting annual services and organising donation drives to support those in need.

Through these efforts, the community has sent medical supplies, toiletries, clothing, and essential items for children and babies to Ukraine.

Ukrainian firefighters have received vital equipment, and Christmas toys have reached children thanks to the church and the wider North Norfolk community.

Mr Grant said: "We hold a service each year to remind everyone that this conflict is still taking place, but also to remind the people of Ukraine and those Ukrainians who currently live in the UK that they aren't forgotten and that we will keep supporting them for as long as it takes.

"It means we can say that they are our neighbours and they are loved.

"We might not be powerful leaders in the world, but what small difference we can make, we will."

All funds raised during the service will go toward supporting the work of North Norfolk Aid for Ukraine.
