A school will soon offer places for two-year-olds in a setting inspired by the Danish concept of ‘hygge’.

Stalham Infant and Junior School, part of Broad Horizons Education Trust, will be offering new places for two-year-olds from January 2026 in a setting with all the comfort of home.

The Norfolk school, which currently accommodates nursery provision for three and four-year-olds, has been recognised as a ‘hygge’ provider.

‘Hygge’, a Danish term, depicts a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment, focusing on well-being and a sense of belonging.

Glenn Russell, executive principal at Stalham Infant and Junior School, said: “This award reflects not only the transformation of our learning spaces but also our belief that children need warmth, connection and a sense of home within school.”

The school plans to extend this ‘hygge’ environment to two-year-olds, creating a nurturing and calming space for their early education.

From the beginning of 2026, these youngest members will also enjoy the benefits of a home-like atmosphere.

Places will be available for two-year-olds from January 2026.
